Arulmigu Mutharamman Temple

Arulmigu Mutharamman Temple

The Arulmigu Mutharamman Temple at Kulasekarapattinam is one of the most powerful Shakti temples in Tamil Nadu and is internationally famous for its spectacular Dasara Festival. Every year, lakhs of devotees from across the country visit this temple during Navaratri to worship Goddess Mutharamman.

One of the temple’s unique traditions is that devotees dress themselves as various divine forms, mythological characters, saints, warriors, and folk deities after observing fasting and penance. This colorful tradition makes the festival unlike any other celebration in India.

The temple is believed to be over 300 years old and is dedicated to Goddess Mutharamman, worshipped as the protector against diseases, evil forces, and obstacles. Devotees pray for good health, prosperity, and success in life. The temple’s coastal location, traditional Dravidian architecture, and vibrant spiritual atmosphere create a memorable experience for visitors.

The temple also conducts regular poojas, special abhishekams, and annual cultural events that preserve the rich heritage of Thoothukudi district.
